About Extant

Home / Company

Extant’s strategic focus is supporting original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and their customers by licensing and/or acquiring non-core and legacy aerospace products and sustaining them in the marketplace including proactive obsolescence management and aftermarket support services.

Our licensing/acquisition transactions provide a high-quality solution to the challenges that often accompany the continuing aftermarket support of these systems and components and enable OEMs to focus their resources on current products and new product research and development.

Extant's business model provides upfront cash for the purchase of related intellectual property, inventory and assets, as well as an ongoing royalty income stream for licensed products manufactured and sold post-license and transition.

Company History

1962

Founding & Early Years

Founded in 1962 as Symetrics Engineering Corp. in Brevard County, Florida, the business was primarily build-to-print services of complex electronic systems and assemblies for government and defense applications. In 1970 the company was renamed Symetrics Industries Inc. to better reflect the broadening scope of the business. At the time Symetrics manufactured aircraft radio antennas, large antennas and control units for maritime applications and electronic training devices for the military. After some restructuring activities, Symetrics began its second venture into commercial products in the early 1980s with a security monitoring system intended for hotels, condominiums and other multi-unit dwellings.

2010

Transformation & Rebranding

In 2010 Symetrics Industries was purchased by Extant Components Group, later to become Extant Aerospace. This acquisition marked the beginning of the transition of the company into mature aerospace products licensing/acquisition company.

In 2012 Extant completed its first license for the manufacturing and repair support for the Integrated Instrumentation Display System (IIDS) from Esterline. The IIDS agreement was followed shortly after, in 2013, by the license of Aero-M and Aero-I series SatCom products from Universal Avionics.

2023

Present Day

Since 2012 Extant has completed over 30 acquisitions and exclusive license agreements in partnership with some of the biggest primes in the industry including L3Harris, Collins Aerospace, and GE. The company now produces, repairs and supports over 5000 part numbers and assemblies across various commercial aerospace and defense platforms.

Extant is well positioned with both the technical expertise and capital resources needed to provide immediate value for non-core assets, a quick and successful product line transition and a continued high level of aftermarket customer service and support. Our track record of successfully sustaining and supporting non-core and legacy aerospace products is unmatched in the marketplace.
